New study on insight in pediatric OCD

A new mega-analysis based on a large, international, cross-sectional sample of children and adolescents with OCD found that the majority of patients (88.9%) had excellent, good, and fair levels of insight, whereas a smaller portion of patients had very poor (9.7%) or no insight at all (1.4%). This is a lower percentage of patients compared to previous studies that have shown that between 20%−45% of kids with OCD have poor or no insight.

The study also revealed that worse insight was associated with more severe symptoms of OCD, specifically increased distress and avoidance, and decreased resistance to OCD.

The results of the study were published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
